Conker – Case Study

The Brief
We were brought on board by the agency LeadTalent who had created a new brand for the Conker furniture company. They wanted a new brand video that would help reposition who they are and include all new branding to communicate their new strategy and offering.
LeadTalent knew the brand story incredibly well, and our job was to pitch ideas that helped translate the strategy into a brand film that pushed the creative aspect of the forward-thinking brand. We knew at the outset that we wanted to combine voiceovers from the staff, and mix this with a visual journey of the products. We needed each setup to look refined and polished, all whilst working within the limitations and restrictions of a live working factory floor. The edit needed to be slick and represent the brand as a forward-thinking innovative company but one that leans on its experience and heritage.

- Pre-Production
Once our creative outline was approved, we had to plan how we would achieve this. We conducted a location recce, to work out which places we would film in, along with planning which people would be involved, and what time and location. We also developed the story arc, and planned the questions and narrative that we required from the staff. - Production
The two filming dates took place over both factories. A team of 3 from Manto, the Director and two camera ops were allowed the team to really develop the considered approach to each frame and setup, along with conducting audio interviews in a separate room to form the story. Working in a live factory meant we also had to be reactive due to peoples availability and not disrupting the production too much. - Post-Production
We gathered all the footage and story outline from the day of production, and it was time to bring it all together. We started by laying out the story and condensing it into a 2-minute piece. While we had an initial plan for what each person would say, we allowed them to speak in their own words, which required some experimentation to achieve the desired flow. Next, we incorporated the b-roll footage, accompanied by a seamless music track and transitions for a polished edit.
The Results
A brand video that highlighted the people at the core of Conker Furniture, showcasing them as the real heroes of the narrative.
Key Highlights
This project has been a real landmark project for us, as it has been a way to tell a brand story in a visually engaging manner. Instead of relying on talking-heads, we used audio interviews with B-roll, which was a bold move in the planning stages, but paid off with the strong visuals that we paired it with.
